<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve a satisfactory capping operation by suppressing deformation of a cap for protecting a recording head when a negative pressure is applied to the cap. <P>SOLUTION: An inkjet recording apparatus includes: the cap 303 having a bottom 303a facing a surface of the recording head where an ejection portion is formed, and a sidewall 303b surrounding the bottom 303a; and a cap holding means 403 holding the cap 303.
