<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a specimen processing device and a specimen processing method capable of shortening the interruption time of specimen processing when an abnormality occurs. <P>SOLUTION: A smear manufacturing device 2 includes coloring mechanism parts B-E. The coloring mechanism parts B-E perform processing to cassettes 20 to be carried backward by a belt 50b. When the cassettes 20 which should arrive do not arrive at a position where the processing is performed by the coloring mechanism parts B-E, a cassette arrival error is generated. In addition, the cassettes 20 which should be detected are not detected at positions of sensors B2-E2 of the coloring mechanism parts B-E, a cassette delivery error is generated. When the errors are generated, processing at the upstream of the error generated part is interrupted, and the belt 50b is moved forward.
