PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus for controlling a variable valve timing mechanism that reduces the power consumption of an internal combustion engine at its starting time, while suppressing preignition and lowering a vibratory force.
SOLUTION: The internal combustion engine includes the variable valve timing mechanism which changes over between a big working angular cam for which the closing timing IVC of an intake valve is after an intake bottom dead center, and a small working angular cam for which the closing timing IVC is closer to the intake bottom dead center than the closing timing IVC with the big working angular cam. Here, when stopping the engine, the variable valve timing mechanism changes over to the big working angular cam (S102), and a first intake stroke performs an operation in a low effective compression ratio so as to suppress the occurrence of the preignition. In the second and the subsequent intake strokes, the big working angular cam is changed over to the small working angular cam (S105), so that the effective compression ratio is increased to provide a higher combustion torque. Thus, the increase of an engine rotation is accelerated, and the power consumption when starting the engine is reduced.
COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
