<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve composition quality by precisely and suitably selecting intermediate composition composite viewpoint images, composed of images of a target viewpoint under different conditions, in pixel units. <P>SOLUTION: An image processing apparatus photographs a subject from a plurality of different positions to generate an image of an arbitrary viewpoint. Virtual viewpoint generation parts 5 and 6 generate intermediate composite images using a plurality of camera images selected so as to generate an image of a demanded virtual viewpoint. A constancy feature quantity calculation part calculates a feature quantity indicative of local constancy from the intermediate composite images. A composition ratio calculation part 13 calculates a composition ratio for suitably selecting or blending intermediate composite images based upon the calculated feature quantity. The feature quantity is entropy (mean information amount) of an edge amount of a local area, and an intermediate composite image having a smaller (more constant) value of the feature quantity is selected or a weight is increased. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
