<p>Two metal tubes with flared ends are placed end to end at a certain distance and joined by a non-conducting sleeve in contact with and on either side of the ends so as to insulate them from one another. The joint may be formed between non-threaded ends and the use of a reinforced plastic provides rigidity. The joint pref. has a separating ring of the same dia. as the tubes to be joined and its inner ends are threaded to engage the external threaded ends of the tubes to be joined, bonding being aided by an adhesive. The joint is pref. formed of glass fibres impregnated with epoxy resin, which may be applied by circumferential winding. An insulated metal ring may be embedded in the joint.</p> |
