METHOD AND DEVICE FOR PROTECTING BATTERY OF HYBRID VEHICLE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and device for protecting batteries of a hybrid vehicle that prevent the occurrence of overcharge in a high voltage battery when a failure of a motor occurs during high speed running.

SOLUTION: The method for protecting the batteries of the hybrid vehicle is provided for making the motor selectively drive as a power source of the battery and for making the battery selectively charged with the electricity generated by driving the motor. The method includes: a step of determining whether the motor is being operated at the speed more than the set constant speed; a step of determining if a failure of the motor has occurred; a step of deciding a target gear change speed by applying an overcharge preventing map if a failure of the motor occurs while the motor operates at speed more than the constant speed; and a step of performing gear shift in the target gear change speed.
