<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an organic luminescent element of a high luminous efficiency. <P>SOLUTION: The organic luminescent element includes: an anode and a cathode; and an organic compound layer pinched between the anode and the cathode, wherein the organic compound layer includes a phenanthrene compound shown by general formula [1]. In the formula [1], R<SB POS="POST">1</SB>-R<SB POS="POST">3</SB>each denote a hydrogen atom or a 1-4C alkyl group.
