The hot candy mass from which the outer casing of the bonbons is formed is fed as a strip into the widest part of the gap between four converging, tapered rolls and progressively worked and kneaded down the gap until it is extruded as a continuous strand from the end where the gap is norrowest. A relatively obtuse apex angled cone is placed symmetrically between the rollers at their input end and through this passes an elongated central filler pipe for the filling material of the bonbons which acts as a mandrel so that the strand emerging from the extruder is an outer cylindrical sugar casing already filled and passed to a stamping machine in which the next phase of prodn. of the bonbons takes place. Thorough mixing ensures uniform cooling and hence uniform wall thickness of the outer sugar candy tube so reducing waste and improving quality at the stamping and further stages of prodn.
|
