<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a piezoelectric element in which failure due to destruction of the surface of an actuator can be prevented without complicating the manufacturing process, and to provide a method of manufacturing the same. <P>SOLUTION: The multilayer piezoelectric element 100 formed in the shape of a rectangle and contracts upon application of a voltage comprises an element body 110 where a piezoelectric layer 112 and an internal electrode 111 are laminated alternately, an external electrode 114 connected with the internal electrode 111 and provided on the side surface of the element body 110 in the direction of lamination, a planar metal lead member 130 connected with the external electrode 114 by bonding, and a stress relaxation layer 113 provided in contact with the outer periphery of the element body 110 on the end side of the lead wire 130 in the direction of lamination. Since the piezoelectric element 100 deforms to spread the stress relaxation layer 113 when the surface 115 thereof is pulled by the lead member 130, tensile stress on the surface 115 can be reduced. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
