[Class 122 (v)] In a sealing washer c of moulded plastic material such as synthetic rubber having one surface of a peripheral part d a press fit in a relatively stationary part, a stiffening ring e is applied to the opposite surface of the part d and has circumferential ridges to grip the part d. The ridges g may be shaped like saw teeth to prevent withdrawal and corresponding ridges may be formed on the part d. In the latter case, if the ridges are in helical form, the ring can be inserted by a screwed action. A flange e<1> on the ring engages the edge of the washer, and a second flange e<2> may be provided to prevent escape of a garter spring f bearing against the sealing lip a. The ridges may be discontinuous circumferentially so as to prevent relative rotation of the parts c, e, or may be gapped so as to permit the ring to be inserted by a combined axial and circumferential movement. Further, the ring e may be in segments to facilitate insertion in the washer. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 10, the ring has a single ridge and a layer of material i sufficiently soft to receive the ridge is provided on the part d which is of harder material.
