<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus maintaining a toner charging characteristic after an automatic gradation correction and reducing unnecessary downtime and wasteful toner consumption when performing the automatic gradation correction. <P>SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus performs: forming a reference developed image on an image carrier using exposure means and development means prior to performing an automatic gradation correction process; detecting density of the reference developed image formed on the image carrier; performing an automatic gradation correction process if the detection result indicates that a charge amount of the developer held by development means is within a predefined range; and performing an adjustment process for adjusting the charge amount of the developer held by development means to be within the predefined range if the detection result of density detection means indicates that the charge amount of the developer held by development means is outside the predefined range, and then performing the automatic gradation correction process. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
