The bumper (1) has an area for the fixing a number plate of a vehicle i.e. car, and a spotter (4) for illuminating the plate. A housing (5) is engaged in an opening (8) in a skin of the bumper. The housing is behind and at a rear transverse beam. The housing is fixed to the opening by a support (11) extending between a periphery of the housing and a periphery of the opening. The support is fixed to the periphery of the opening by a fixing unit that releases the periphery of the opening in case of rear impact and deformation of the bumper and pushes the housing of the spotter against the beam.
