<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image display device capable of accurately synthesizing four or more rays of modulated primary-color light by means of the single device. <P>SOLUTION: The image display device comprises: a primary-color light emitting means for emitting N(≥4) rays of primary color light; a modulated primary-color light generating means 12 for generating modulated primary-color light by modulating primary color light according to an image signal; an image light synthesizing means 13 for synthesizing the modulated primary-color light with image light; and an image light projecting means 14 for projecting the image light. The image light synthesizing means 13 includes a prismatic image optical path, which emits image light from an emission face that is one of square end faces; N modulated primary-color optical paths extending from the side face of the image optical path or/and the other end face of the image optical path, each of which propagates one ray of modulated primary color light; and a dichroic mirror which is formed in the image optical path and by which the modulated primary color light propagated by the modulated primary color optical path extending from the side face of the image optical path is reflected toward the emission face. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT |
