<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a multi-core fiber capable of suppressing an increase of the cutoff wavelength of a particular core while reducing crosstalk between cores. <P>SOLUTION: A multi-core fiber 1 includes: a clad 20; and a plurality of core elements 10a, 10b which are disposed within the clad 20 and contain a core 11, an inner cladding layer 12 surrounding the core 11, and a low refractive index layer 13 which surrounds the inner cladding layer 12 and has a lower average refractive index than those of the clad 20 and the inner cladding layer 12. A particular core element 10a is surrounded by three or more core elements 10b. In the three or more core elements 10b surrounding the particular core element 10a, the distance between the low refractive index layers 13 of at least one pair of adjoining core layers 10b is made larger than the distance between the low refractive index layers 13 of other adjoining core layers 10b. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
