<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus for continuous culture of microalgae in which high speed proliferation is achieved in the coexistence of heterotrophs and autotrophs and to provide a method for continuous culture of microalgae using the apparatus. <P>SOLUTION: The apparatus for continuous culture of microalgae is a closed type in which a light irradiation device, which has a light emitter or an optical waveguide with the light emitter as the light source, is installed inside or outside. The light irradiation device has a composition which irradiates light, which has quality and photon required for the photosynthesis of the microalgae in the culture solution and which has center wavelengths of 430-480 nm, 560-620 nm, and 675-685 nm, with photon quantity ratios of 0.5-5 and 4-10, respectively, on the basis of the short wavelength, toward the culture solution at least from either one of the sidewalls, the upper and lower surface of the culture solution. The apparatus has a heating unit inside or outside which applies heat sterilization to the culture solution containing water soluble carbohydrates as carbon sources of the microalgae and has a sterilized feeder or a filter sterilization unit for putting the culture contents into the culture solution.
