The wedge (5) has a bottom plate (8) and a top plate (9) separated from each other by a pasty and curable material (10), where the total thickness of the wedge is greater than the thickness of a gap between a moving part (6) and a fixed part (7) i.e. cap of a stamping tool, before the wedge is put in place on one of the parts of the stamping tool. The pasty and curable material is polyester cement added with hardener prior to the application to the plates. The top plate includes a projecting portion (11) facing a recess portion (12) of the bottom plate. An independent claim is also included for a method for measuring the thickness of a gap between a moving part and a fixed part of a stamping tool.
