The mechanism (40) has a barrel (41) integrated to a door frame (2) and pivoting around an axis (Y-Y') parallel to an edge of a door (P). A electromagnetic locking unit comprises an electromagnet (421) integrated with the frame and a metal reinforcing plate (422) fixed on a lever arm (48) coupled with the barrel, so that a bolt on the edge encases a striking plate on the barrel and rotates the striking plate along its axis to cause rotation of the arm, press the reinforcing plate on the electromagnet and lock the door on the frame during closing of the door on the frame. An independent claim is also included for a prehung door unit.
