<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projector capable of effectively cooling an optical element. <P>SOLUTION: A projector 1 comprises a cooling device for cooling an optical element 361 by a cooling fluid. The cooling device comprises discharge means for discharging the cooling fluid and causing the cooling fluid to circulate along the surface of the optical element 361 at such a flow rate that the Reynolds number becomes 300,000 or more.
