<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projector for achieving a display of an image by proximity projection at an extremely short distance and a display of an image by projection at an intermediate distance, to provide a projection unit used in the projector, and to provide an electronic blackboard that reduces weight, power consumption, and cost, restrains size in depth, and has high convenience. <P>SOLUTION: The projector comprises: a body part 2 including an emitting optical system for emitting image light; and a projection unit 3 for projecting image light, emitted from the emitting optical system, toward a target emission face. The projection unit 3 comprises a variable power optical system for converting a magnification for an image formed by image light, and a concave, wide-angled mirror for widening an angle by reflecting image light from the variable power optical system.
