<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control device of a hybrid vehicle that controls occurrence of shock when starting an engine at reverse traveling. <P>SOLUTION: When starting an engine 12 at reverse traveling, and the absolute value of the required driving force F<SB POS="POST">req</SB>is determined to become equal to or more than the second threshold F<SB POS="POST">2</SB>, occurrence of shock caused by inclination forward of the engine 12 can be suppressed by turning on the engine start determination when the driving torque is equal to or more than the prescribed value in negative side when reverse traveling, since the engine 12 is started before the actual driving force reaches the value corresponding to the required driving force F<SB POS="POST">req</SB>.
