<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a stereoscopic image display device that displays a high-definition and large-screen stereoscopic image. <P>SOLUTION: A stereoscopic image display device 1 comprises: a backlight 2; an image forming part 4 on which left-eye pixels 5 and right-eye pixels 6 are disposed; a retardation part 8 having first polarization areas 9 and second polarization areas 10; and polarization glasses 11. On the image forming part 4, the left-eye pixels 5 form a left-eye image and the right-eye pixels 6 form a right-eye image. On the retardation part 8 the first polarization areas 9 and the second polarization areas 10, which have different retardation, are disposed so as to correspond to the left-eye pixels 5 and the right-eye pixels 6 respectively, so that an observer 20 sees the left-eye image with his/her left eye and the right-eye image with his/her right eye to view a stereoscopic image. In addition, the backlight 2 may be replaced with a reflection part that reflects light, or condenser lenses that gather left-eye image light and right-eye image light may be put on the left and right eyes of the observer 20 respectively to eliminate the need for the polarization glasses 11. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
