<p>1407420 Copolymerization of mono-olefins and conjugated diolefins SNAMPROGETTI SpA 24 Nov 1972 [26 Nov 1971] 54529/72 Heading C3P A system of monomers each containing at least 4 carbon atoms and consisting of one or more mono-olefins and one or more conjugated diolefins is polymerized in a liquid reaction medium in the presence of a catalyst comprising (A) an organo-aluminium compound dissolved in the reaction medium having the formula AlR 3 or AlR 2 X where X is halogen and the R's are the same or different and are selected from hydrogen, C 1 -C 10 hydrocarbon groups and OR<SP>1</SP> and SR<SP>1</SP> where R<SP>1</SP> is a C 1 -C 10 hydrocarbon group and (B) a solid compound insoluble in the reaction medium and having the formula MX<SP>1</SP> n where M is U, or an element of Groups I-II of the Periodic Table, X<SP>1</SP> is an anion and n is the valency of M. (B) may be a finely divided anhydrous solid. In the examples isobutene and isoprene are copolymerized in methyl chloride using as (A) AlEt 2 Cl or AlEt(OEt)Cl and as (B) Mg(ClO 4 ) 2 , MgF 2 , MgCl 2 , UCl 4 , HgCl 2 or ZnCl 2 and the polymerization is stopped by addition of methanol. The product copolymer is vulcanized. In comparative examples AlCl 3 is used as (a) or the (b) components are used alone. The Specification refers to 1,407,415, 1,407,417, 1,407,418 and 1,407,419.</p> |
