<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projection type video display apparatus capable of restricting decrease in image luminance in a 2D mode in the case where switching between a 3D mode and the 2D mode is possible. <P>SOLUTION: A projection type video display apparatus 100 is configured so as to be switchable between the 3D mode for displaying a stereoscopic image and the 2D mode for displaying a flat image. The projection type video display device 100 includes: a polarizer 70 for aligning the polarization of light emitted from a light source 10; and a liquid crystal element 80 configured to switch the polarization of light emitted from the polarizer 70 between first polarization and second polarization. The polarizer 70 is configured so as to be movable out of an optical path of light emitted from the light source 10, up to a position where the polarizer 70 does not overlap the optical path of light emitted from the light source 10. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
