<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect rotation of a fixing belt without using a sensor susceptible to heat, or without applying processing that causes an adverse effect on the fixing belt. <P>SOLUTION: A fixing device 200 includes a fixing belt 210, a fixing roller 220, a heating roller 230, and a pressure roller 240; and a recess 232 is formed on the heating roller 230. A temperature sensor 290 that measures temperature of the fixing belt 210 is arranged at a position corresponding to the recess 232 of the fixing belt 210, and a running state of the fixing belt 210 is monitored on the basis of a variation in temperature of the fixing belt 210 detected by the temperature sensor 290.
