An apparatus and method of driving an image display device is provided to improve an image quality by removing motion blur of a moving picture without flicker. An image display unit(2) has plural unit pixels consisting of subpixels of first colors to fourth colors. A drive circuit unit(10) converts three-color input data(Ri,Gi) having first to third colors into four-color data having first to fourth colors, and adjusts a gamma characteristic of data supplied to the subpixels of first to third colors and a gamma characteristic of data supplied to the subpixel of fourth color differently in unit of at least one frame. The drive circuit unit has a timing controller(8), a gate driver(4) supplying a scan pulse to each subpixel, and a data driver(6) converting four-color output data(RO,GO,BO,WO) generated by the timing controller into an image signal. |
