PURPOSE: An operation state providing method of an external device and a device thereof are provided to confirm information for operation states of components installed inside the external device by using AR(Augmented Reality). CONSTITUTION: A second control unit of a portable terminal identifies an external device included in a preview image of a camera(S620). The second control unit obtains component information corresponding to an outer tube of the external device(S630). The second control unit receives information for the operation state of a component from the external device(S640). The second control unit generates an indicator corresponding to the operation state of the component(S650).
