The method is intended for application in air brake systems of rail vehicles having a driver's brake valve (1) and serves to detect a compressed air outflow from the main air line (3, 3') not controlled by the driver's brake valve and if necessary to initiate emergency braking in the event of such outflows of compressed air. By means of a flow meter (4) the amount of air per unit of time re-fed into the main air line (3, 3') by the driver's brake valve (1) is measured and, in the event of a limit value being exceeded, a signal introduced into a signal line (46). When the signal is introduced a discriminator (29) is activated, which stores the pressure level prevailing in the main air line (3, 3') at this time and by means of a piston (31) compares it with the pressure subsequently produced in the main air line (3, 3'). In the event of a rising trend of the main air line pressure the discriminator (29) blocks the signal introduced into the signal line (46); in the event of a falling trend it releases the signal flow, as a result of which a warning signal and if necessary emergency braking are triggered. If the main air line pressure remains at a constant level the signal flow for triggering the warning signal and the emergency braking is released with a timed delay. <IMAGE> |
