<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately measure a distance to a preceding vehicle detected by an in-vehicle monocular camera. <P>SOLUTION: An inter-vehicle distance calculation device includes: a vehicle detection part for detecting an image area of another vehicle from an image obtained from one imaging part loaded on a self-vehicle; a vehicle model identification part for identifying a vehicle model of the another vehicle; a database for storing information relating to a unique body dimension of the vehicle; a body dimension pixel number calculation part for measuring a pixel number which is equivalent to the body dimension in the image of the another vehicle; a body dimension calculation part for calculating the unique body dimension of the another vehicle by collating the database as to the vehicle model identified by the vehicle model identification part; and an inter-vehicle distance calculation part for calculating a distance from the self-vehicle to the another vehicle on the basis of the unique body dimension of the another vehicle and the pixel number which is equivalent to the body dimension. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
