<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an exhaust gas purification device for an internal combustion engine which can improve fuel efficiency by automatic stop of an engine, and can properly suppress start delay of regeneration treatment by the automatic stop of the engine. <P>SOLUTION: The engine 1 which is automatically stopped includes a filter 32 for capturing a particulate material in an exhaust gas. A controller 25 allows to perform the regeneration treatment of the filter 32 after the engine has already been warmed up. When a water temperature of the engine is not higher than a specific determination temperature, the controller 25 prohibits the automatic stop of the engine.
