<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light source device capable of attaining a sufficient amount of light. <P>SOLUTION: In the light source device 10, light can be taken out from both front and rear surfaces of a waveguide 2 by making one end and the other end of a discharge lamp 1 respectively expose from the front and rear surfaces of the waveguide 2. Thus, a larger amount of light can be attained in comparison with a conventional light source device wherein light is taken out from one surface.
