摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image display apparatus capable of appropriately adjusting brightness of a display image without requiring a large-capacity memory. <P>SOLUTION: A liquid crystal display apparatus comprises: a front face illuminance sensor 1 for measuring an incident illuminance I<SB POS="POST">FRO</SB>of peripheral light advancing toward a reference plane 12 including a liquid crystal display panel 5 from the front face side of a housing; a back face illuminance sensor 2 for measuring an incident illuminance I<SB POS="POST">REA</SB>of peripheral light advancing toward the reference plane 12 from the back face side of the housing; and an incident illuminance calculation section 3 for previously holding a formula for calculating an incident illuminance I<SB POS="POST">EYE</SB>at a predetermined position 13 in the front face side of the liquid crystal display panel 5 from the incident illuminances I<SB POS="POST">FRO</SB>and I<SB POS="POST">REA</SB>, and calculating the incident illuminance I<SB POS="POST">EYE</SB>with the use of the incident illuminances I<SB POS="POST">FRO</SB>and I<SB POS="POST">REA</SB>and the formula. A display control section 4 determines suitable display brightness L<SB POS="POST">PRE</SB>of a display image from the calculated incident illuminance I<SB POS="POST">EYE</SB>and display brightness L<SB POS="POST">DIS</SB>indicated by input image data. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT
