PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide improvement of thickness uniformity of a pretreatment layer and formation of a pretreatment layer hardly occurring crack and the like.

SOLUTION: A pretreatment method for a material to be printed is performed prior to ink jet printing on a material to be printed, and has a tension-imparting steps of imparting tensile force to at least a part to be printed that is subjected to ink jet printing, in the material to be printed so that the part to be printed is in the extended state; and a pretreatment material attaching steps of attaching a pretreatment material with ink permeation-inhibiting property to the part to be printed which is in the extended state.
