PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To generate correction information for correcting pixel values of taint pixels with high precision while suppressing increase of a data processing amount.

SOLUTION: Reference plate read-out data is obtained from a reference plate 46 by a back surface image reading unit 28 to read initial data stored on a back surface EEPROM 88. A target pixel i is set to the reference plate read-out data, and the processing of comparing the pixel value of the target pixel i and the initial value i and extracting a taint pixel is repeated until k=kmaxis satisfied. When a taint pixel number k exceeds an upper limit value kmaxbefore the processing on all pixels is finished, the initial data is set as shading correction information. When the processing on all the pixels is finished whereas the taint pixel number k does not exceed the upper limit value kmax, the pixel value of the taint pixel in the reference plate read-out data is replaced by a correction value corresponding to an initial value at the same pixel position of the initial data to generate shading correction information.
