PURPOSE: A portable terminal and a driving method thereof are provided to automatically execute a specific function connected to an external device when the searched external device is selected. CONSTITUTION: A wireless communication unit(110) forms a first wireless communication link based on a first frequency with an external device. The first wireless communication link includes a plurality of data transceiving paths. A control unit(180) acquires a distance and a direction for a portable terminal based on a phase difference generated by the data transceiving paths. The control unit displays the external device on the display unit by considering the acquired direction and direction.
