The apparatus (1) has a label deactivating and/or reading unit (5) installed in a housing (6) having a slot (7) for insertion of a pocket with a radio frequency identification (RFID) label attached to an article i.e. shirt, and presentation within the housing by the label deactivating and/or reading unit. A radio transmitter (8) transmits information collected on the label to a central management system, and a knife cuts the pocket after deactivation and/or reading of the label, where the knife is designed to carry out a cutting in the vicinity of a fastening edge of the pocket. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a label processing method for protecting an article against theft and/or managing the article (2) a pocket with a label.
