<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve more power saving without damaging each function of the device or the convenience of a user in a money handling device having a power saving mode for intercepting power supply to each part of the device when there does not exist any user. <P>SOLUTION: The money handling device includes: reading means for reading identification information from an information recording medium in which identification information for identifying a user is recorded; money processing means for performing the settlement processing of money with the user identified on the basis of the identification information read by the reading means; approach detection means for detecting the approach of the user; and control means for, when the user is detected by the approach detection means, starting power supply to the reading means and the money processing means, and for, when a state that the user is not detected by the approach detection means continues for a predetermined time, stopping power supply to the reading means and the money processing means.
