<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an object detection apparatus 1 capable of accurately and easily removing background light from reflection light from an object. <P>SOLUTION: The object detection apparatus 1 is provided which comprises a phase synchronization detection section 210 and an object detection section 260. The phase synchronization detection section 210 performs phase synchronization detection on light reception signals during light-on periods and light-off periods of light sources 101, 102 in the case where the light sources 101, 102 of a predetermined wavelength in accordance with an object are turned on and turned off iteratively in a predetermined pattern, while using a reference signal having the same frequency as the lighting-on and lighting-off patterns of the light sources 101, 102 and a fixed phase relation therewith.
