PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and system for providing assistance data to wireless transmit/receive units (WTRUs).

SOLUTION: The assistance data comprises information regarding access points neighboring an access point. The assistance data is transmitted to WTRUs using multicast and/or broadcast type signaling and facilitates ring and handover of WTRUs from one access point to another.
