<p>This is an addn. to DT2548379, which described a feeler rod assembly for cold pilger rolling mills. A monitor indicating the position of the rolling mandrel is attached by the rod and a coupling to one end of the mandrel. In this patent of addn., the coupling includes a ball joint permitting a strictly limited amt. of movement of the rod w.r.t. the mandrel. The pref. coupling includes a ball mounted on the end of a threaded shaft screwed into the mandrel; the shaft also has flats for a spanner. The ball works in conjunction with a ball socket rigidly fixed to the feeler rod, which is made of (a) weakly- or non-magnetic spring steel; (b) Cu-Be alloy; or (c) plastic filled with glass- and/or carbon-fibres. The longitudinal play of the assembly is limited to 0.2-0.5 mm, but the coupling can absorb rotational- and impact- forces and does not transmit or create resonant.</p> |
