PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projection type image display device capable of improving image-moving performance of a video signal and improving contrast.SOLUTION: A projection type image display device includes: a video analyzing unit 42 which analyzes a video signal; a correspondence setting unit 41 which sets the diaphragm amount of a diaphragm mechanism, a color balance correction value, and a lightness correction value on the basis of analysis data analyzed by the video analyzing unit; a black period control unit 44 which sets a black period in the video signal on the basis of a predetermined amount of black time; a diaphragm drive unit 32 which outputs a dive signal to the diaphragm mechanism so that the diaphragm amount of the diaphragm mechanism is fully closed during the black period set by a black period setting unit and the diaphragm mechanism has the diaphragm amount set by the setting unit during the other period of time; and a video processing unit 34 which corrects the color balance and lightness of the video signal using the color balance correction value and the lightness correction value set by the correspondence setting unit. |
