PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a nuclear power plant capable of cooling a reactor core thereof for an extended period of time without an external supply of cooling water.SOLUTION: When power is lost in an initial step after shutting down a nuclear power plant 1, an open/close valve 21 is opened by power from a battery 13C and steam in a reactor pressure vessel (RPV) 2 is condensed by cooling water of a pressure suppression pool 6. Heat of the cooling water in the pressure suppression pool 6 is transferred to cooling water of a cooling water pool 8 located at a lower portion of an internal space 22 between a first primary containment vessel (PCV) 3 surrounding the RPV 2 and a second PCV 7 surrounding the first PCV 3. In the initial stage, an open/close valve 11 is opened by power from a battery 13A and cooling water in a water tank 10 is poured into the RPV 2. After the initial stage has passed, an open/close valve 17 is opened by power from a battery 13B and an evaporator 15 in the RPV 2 turns a refrigerant to steam, which is condensed by a condenser 16 located in the internal space 22 to become a liquid refrigerant and is returned to the evaporator 15. |
