The device (10) has a thermal member (11) in direct contact with an open-cell metal foam (1) to enable heat exchange between the thermal member and the metal foam. The thermal member and the metal foam are integrally assembled in solely mechanical manner without soldering, brazing or welding by local deformation at a junction by mechanical force. The metal foam is locally deformed at the junction with the thermal member. An independent claim is also included for a method for assembling a thermal member with a metal foam.
