METHOD FOR MANUFACTURING ARTICLE HAVING BIREFRINGENT PATTERN

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for efficiently manufacturing an article that has a birefringent pattern using a cholesteric structure and can be displayed in various colors.SOLUTION: The method for manufacturing an article having a birefringent pattern includes at least the following steps [1] to [4] in this order. These steps are: [1] applying a composition containing at least one kind of rod-like liquid crystalline compound having at least two reactive groups and at least one chiral agent onto a support and drying the composition to form a cholesteric liquid crystal phase, followed by heating or irradiating with light to form an optical anisotropic layer containing a polymerized polymeric compound with a fixed oriented condition; [2] extracting at least a part of the chiral agent in the optical anisotropic layer; [3] exposing the optical anisotropic layer to transfer two or more patterns under different exposure conditions from each other; and [4] baking a laminate obtained after the step [3] at 50°C or higher and 150°C or lower.
