PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical transmission system capable of locating suitably a spot at which an instantaneous interruption occurred.SOLUTION: An optical transmission system 100 comprises a plurality of nodes, an optical transmission path connecting between the nodes, and a monitoring device 50 for monitoring the nodes and the optical transmission path. Each node includes: an optical level monitor unit for measuring the optical level of an optical signal received from the optical transmission path; an instantaneous interruption detection unit for detecting the instantaneous interruption of an optical signal on the basis of the optical level information measured by the optical level monitor unit; and a notification unit which, when an instantaneous interruption of the optical signal is detected by the instantaneous interruption detection unit, notifies the monitoring device 50 of information on occurrence of an instantaneous interruption and the time of day at which the instantaneous interruption occurred.
