PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a packet transfer device and a method which can prevent influences by a forged packet.SOLUTION: Routers 20a-20c as packet transfer devices transfer packets transmitted through a network to a transmission destination. The packet transfer device has: an evaluation section 23 for evaluating a message authentication code when the message authentication code for authenticating communication quality control information (e.g. DSCP in the header of the packet which conforms to IPv6) which is stored in the header of the packet is stored in the header; and a transfer section 24 for performing communication quality control using the communication quality control information and transferring the packet to the transmission destination when the evaluation section 23 evaluates that the message authentication code is valid. |
