PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader which switches a transmission destination of driving force of a driving source without depending on driving of the driving source so that a transportation direction of a document can be switched.SOLUTION: An image reader where a driving source is shared by ADF and a moving mechanism of a flat bed includes: an energizing mechanism which includes an elastic member and moves a reading unit to a fixed reading position with energizing force of the elastic member when the reading unit is moved from a moving reading region to outside the moving reading region by the moving mechanism; a transmission element which is displaced by movement of the reading unit and switches a transmission destination of driving force of the driving source with the moving mechanism and a feeding mechanism; and an escape mechanism for allowing the reading unit in the fixed reading position to escape from the fixed reading position to the moving reading region with the driving force from the driving source. |
