The present invention relates to a method for performing ranging at an M2M device in a wireless communication system, which includes: a step of receiving an advanced air interface-system configuration descriptor (AAI-SCD) message; a step of applying a ranging configuration indicated by an M2M ranging indicator which is included in the AAI-SCD message; and a step of performing ranging according to the ranging configuration if network re-entry is not prohibited in the ranging configuration. The ranging configuration is to provide a method for performing ranging, whether it is a normal ranging, a dedicated ranging for M2M devices, or a ranging that prohibits network re-entry of M2M devices.
