PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for accurately and quantitatively diagnosing a furnace wall of a coke oven with regard to fouling or aging status. SOLUTION: A measured distance displacement line is obtained by measuring a distance between furnace walls in the longitudinal direction at any height in the carbonation chamber. An equalized displacement line is found by smoothing the displacement line. Status of the furnace wall can be quantitatively evaluated while separating the displacement caused by furnace surface conditions such as carbon adhered onto the furnace wall or deficit of the furnace wall from the displacement caused by transfer or deformation of the furnace wall itself. Further, the relative status of the furnace walls of a plurality of the carbonization chambers can be quantitatively evaluated by introducing the concept of an area of the part surrounded with these displacement lines.
