PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rotation measurement apparatus and method in which, even if a member to be measured such as ruggedness or a stripe pattern has an error, that error is grasped and can be canceled. SOLUTION: A rotation detection apparatus 10 is an apparatus for detecting information on rotations of a rotor 11, including: a reflection sheet 12 which is mounted to the rotor 11 and has a plurality of stripe patterns having cyclicity in a rotating direction; sensors 13, 14 which detect the reflection sheet 12 and are disposed at a predetermined interval in the rotating direction; and an arithmetic processing unit 15 for determining instantaneous rotation frequencies from signals obtained by the sensors 13, 14 and for arithmetically operating an error relating to the reflection sheet 12 from a differential between the instantaneous rotation frequencies.
