In order, in a method of operating an absorption heat pump with a boiler (generator), a liquefier, a throttle, an evaporator and an absorber, from which a cold flow of the rich solution flows into the boiler, to avoid the heat losses, in the form of flue gases, occurring on heating the boiler, it is proposed that the rich solution is conducted between the absorber and the boiler through a flue gas residual heat exchanger, through which the flue gas from the boiler heating flows, and is supplied therein with part of the heat extracted from the flue gas.
